About the area

In the heart of Jutland on the east coast, Aarhus is located. It is Denmark's second largest city. The city is known as the "City of Smile"

Aarhus is a university city, with a lot of young inhabitants. However, it is one of the oldest cities in Denmark, with very old charming and old buildings in the city center. This mix of young energy, and ancient history makes Aarhus a city with a lot of energy. Here is the same vibrant feeling as in Copenhagen, only in smaller size.

Just through the city there runs a creek, which has been transformed into a boulevard. Alongside this creek there are cafes and bars, and it is one of the most popular venues, always filled with life and people. In the City there is always party and happy days, and a huge selection of shopping options, including Salling, Magasin and a lot of shops. There are also shopping centers a bit out of town. City West, Bruuns Gallery and Stocenter Nord.

Aarhus is surrounded by forest, beach and water - all within walking distance. In the center you will find parks and green oases everywhere, which are perfect places to settle down to relax in peace and quiet. For ex. you can enjoy a quiet moment in the Botanical Garden, Marselisborg Memorial Park, University Park and Town Hall Park.

Since Aarhus is perfectly located by water and forest, there are a lot of opportunities for an active lifestyle. There are easy access to bike paths, running trails, outdoor training areas and all kinds of water sports. Aarhus has got a new quarter at the harbor, Aarhus Ø. Here there is a lot going on. For ex. city art, gardens, beach bar, beach volleyball, basketball courts and a lounge area. There are also beaches around the city. In the summer you can go to Ballehage, The Permanent, the Marina or the swimming pool.

There is a tone of cafes and restaturants in Aarhus. Especially the area around the Latin Quarter is known for its hip urban environment and the green initiatives. The lively, relaxed and charming atmosphere makes the restaurant and café environment in Aarhus something special and unique.

Aarhus is a fantastic bicycle city, so there are many good cycling routes and that make it easy to get around. However, it is also very easy to get around with public transport. Trains and buses often travel out of town to nearby cities, and other major cities in Denmark.

Because Aarhus was awarded the European Capital of Culture in 2017, there is always year round fun and exciting events that cover culture, sports, gastronomy, art and much more. In Aarhus you will also find art museum Aros, The Old Town, Aarhus Cathedral, The Endless Bridge, Aarhus Street Food, Botanical Gardens, Tivoli Friheden and much more. It is truly a city filled with experiences.

Like Copenhagen, the center is characterized by apartment complexes, while in the outer areas, and suburbs you find the nice villa neighborhood. Here there is room for young people, old people and families.
