Copenhagen S and Amager have undergone a transformation in the recent years. Many new apartments have been built, and there are therefore many interesting buildings. In addition there is a large nice beach park, and large green areas where you can go running or go for a walk. There are also shopping options including 2 shopping centers Amager Center and Fields just a metro ride away. In addition, there is a a lot of small local shops, and a many restaurants and cafees. On Refhalsøen close by, you find the Opera House, and the popular Reffen with unique dining experiences. From here you can also get to Nyhavn via the new bike bridge.
Amager is diverse, and you will find all kinds of people and different areas. Both areas with brand new modern apartment buildings in Ørestaden, or the old town in the area at Lergravsparken and Holmbladsgade. Amager has both sides: residential apartment areas, and also many villa neighborhoods with schools and institutions close by. Perfect for all kind of families.
Here are plenty of things to do: Sports facilities, Cultural houses, swimming pools, flea markets, concerts, parks and children's events.
There are good public transport options with both A-buses and Metro. You can always easily get to the city, or to the airport. Otherwise hop on the bike, and get into City in no time.
Right at the beginning of Amager you will find Islands Brygge (or Bryggen). As this is also a newer part of Copenhagen, there are many new buildings. There is a great atmosphere at the canalfront, and harbor bath in the summer, and with the new bike bridge you can come directly from Bryggen, and over to Fisketorvet shopping center and close to Vesterbro.
Beautiful Christianshavn also is located in the beginning of Amager. Christianshavn is a lively area with lots of charm and atmosphere. By the canal you will find many small cafes and shops.
There is a very personal atmosphere out there, with many beautiful and unique homes.
Along the eastern coast of the island, Christianshavn's Vold runs beautifully. Here you find one of the most important green area in the neighborhood. Christianshavn is also full of charming old buildings, that give the area a personal touch. One of the biggest attractions in Christianshavn is the famous Christiania area.
Amager is really popular, and many choose to live here instead of the City, because the feeling and the atmosphere are very similar. Here is always life and happy days, and every year Christmas opens with a fantastic Christmas Parade through Amagerbrogade.
